Tuesday 21 November 2017

         Morning
We started the day practicing our song and dance for the Christmas concert. Students are doing a great job memorizing our dance routine!

Phonics
We continued exploring the short/long Aa.
We watched a Jack Hartmann video

Students really enjoyed this video, it had great examples of words that have short and long Aa sounds.

After, students worked on a worksheet

Journal
Students worked in their journals and wrote about what they did on the weekend

Math
Data Management: We continued learning about tally marks. We did a few graphs together as a class where students were asked a yes or no question. After, tallied the results together.

We wanted to see how many friends like chocolate. After, Syra used tally marks to show the number 9.

After, students worked in their workbook and came up with their own question to ask their peers.
Some of the questions the students came up with were: Do you like to swim? Do you like Mcdonalds? Do you like Ice cream? Do you like Hamburgers?
Students asked their peers different questions and then counted and showed data using tally marks.

Gym with Mrs. Jans

After gym, students practiced the Christmas song & dance

Unit of Inquiry: Sensational Senses
Students continued learning about their sense of taste. We brainstormed a list of food items that are sweet or salty. Students mentioned their favorite food/snack and had to describe if it is a sweet or salty taste.
After, students created a sweet or salty chart and drew pictures of food items that belong in each category.

Once students completed their work, they read a book independently.

Christmas Concert

St. Jude's is hosting an International Christmas celebration, on December 12, 2017 at 6:30 pm. Extended family/friends are welcome!

Each class will be singing a Christmas song in English and in a different language. Our class is singing Jingle bells. We will sing the song in English with some Arabic lyrics. The Arabic song is laylet eid by Lebanese singer, Fayrouz as it has the same beat as Jingle bells. Students will be required to sing only 1 sentence in Arabic and the rest of the song will be in English. I have attached the lyrics to the song so that students can practice pronouncing the Arabic part.

Christmas Concert Uniform

Students will be dressed in red & black. (red shirt and black pants) and a red Santa hat. You can find Santa hats at any Dollarama store or Wal-mart.

Students will also hold little bells that I will be purchasing from the store.

If you can please send in $2.00 with your child by Friday, Novmber 24th so that I can go purchase the bells so that we can start practicing the routine with the bells.

Thank you for your support and cooperation J
