Morning:
Halloween Costume Contest!
This morning, students all gathered in the assembly and grade 4 teachers selected top costumes from each grade.
Kai from our class was in the top 10 for best costume!

After, students had their October Spelling test.


Halloween treats!
Syra gave out halloween stickers to her friends. Devan and Surina gave out goodie bags for the class!



Phonics
Today students reviewed the letter G and words that begin with the letter Gg. After students worked on a letter Gg worksheet



Math 
Patterning review day 1
Students reviewed the different types of patterns. 
We reviewed the different patterns together as a class. After, students worked in their math workbook and completed different patterns. After, they worked on ABBA patterns.

Unit of Inquiry: Sensational Senses
Today, students used their senses to feel a monster!


We had 4 different bags that contained a monsters teeth, brains, eye balls and fingers. Students did not know what was each bag. 
The monsters teeth were popcorn kernels, the eye balls were wet cotton balls, the fingers were baby carrots and the brain was noodles!
Students closed their eyes and put their hand in each bag to feel the different textures and described each one.

Reading Buddies
Students read books with their reading buddies in Grade. 4





Morning Routine

Phonics
Today students learned the sound, action and song for the letter Gg. Students watched bounce patrol and brainstormed words that begin with the letter Gg.








Math
Today students discovered a new pattern! Students learned about ABBA patterns.
First, we created ABBA patterns using blocks. Students know that an ABBA pattern ends with an A, and begins with an A. 

Syra's pattern: Blue, purple, purple, blue. Blue, purple, purple, blue.

After, students worked individually and created their own ABBA pattern and then shared it with the class.

Unit of Inquiry: Sensational Senses
We reviewed the 5 senses and brainstormed a list of things that can be hard, soft, bumpy/rough.

After, students worked in pairs and went on a scavenger hunt around the room to touch/feel items that are soft and hard & then presented their findings to the class.
Some of the hard objects students found in the room: table, chair, book, pencil, sharpener, window, board, wall, floor.
Soft items: carpet, hair, sweater, scarf

Phonics

Journal

Students worked in their journals and wrote down words that begin with D and M
Students copied the sentence prompt, words that start with D and M are:
and then wrote down words on their own


 



Math

We reviewed all the different types of patterns we learned so far. Today, students discovered a new type of pattern, ABB
Students used blocks to create an ABB pattern, and then they created their own ABB pattern by coloring in Halloween pumpkins!

Spelling Pre-test
Students worked independently on their spelling pre-test. 


After students completed the test, we took up the answers together.  


Unit of Inquiry: Sensational Senses
Students reviewed the 5 senses they learned yesterday.



Students brainstormed ways how their bodies can help them touch.
Students listened to a story about Touch


After, we talked about the different textures that people can feel, such as bumpy, soft, smooth, rough etc.

Students worked on a hand print activity. Students were given 5 different textures and were asked to describe how they felt. The items included, cotton, sand paper, pipe cleaner, tissue paper, and tape

As a class, we discussed what these textures felt like. After, students put together the items on a hand print.
