Wednesday, October 18th

Phonics:  Students played a word game to find the words of the week. Students sounded out the letters to read the words.

After, students went up to the board and spelled out words on their own by sounding out each letter.

After, we watched bounce patrol for the letter R and jack hartman! Students really enjoy watching these videos.

After watching the videos, we brainstormed words that begin with the letter R.

Math: Unit: Patterning
Today we continued learning about patterning and sorting.
Students discovered that some of their shoes had patterns in them!

We continued to talk about sorting and figuring out what doesn't belong.

Some students sorted out objects into 3 categories: glue sticks, scissors, erasers.
Some of the items were not placed in the correct group. Students had to find which items didn't belong.

After, students worked in their Math workbook.

Students understand that the Giraffe does not belong in the first group because it is not a cat.
In the second category, the rake does not belong because it is not a shovel.
In the third category, the skate board and roller blade does not belong because they have 4 wheels where as the scooter and bike have only 2.

Unit of Inquiry: "Outside Our Window"
Yesterday we started our new unit, Outside our Window. We have been discussing all the different colors we see in fall. Students went on a nature walk yesterday and found different kinds of colored leaves.
Today we did an art activity called Rubbing and students were introduced to primary colors:
 BLUE, RED, YELLOW.
Students used the leaves they gathered yesterday and put it under a white sheet of paper. We used a crayon and rubbed it on top of the sheet to create the outline of the leaf.
