Morning Calendar Routine: Our calendar helper for the week is Syra!

Our weather reporter for the week is Mila.

Phonics: Today, we learned about the short E sound found in words such as, pet, egg, wet, web, neck, ten, etc. Students understand that the letter E makes two different sounds, short e sound and long e sound (found in words like green, and three). We are focusing on the short E sound. Students came up with different words that have the short E sound:

Math: We reviewed how to use 5 and 10 frames. Students were asked to show numbers more/less than 5 and 10. First we reviewed 5 frames.
Victoria showing us the number 6 on a 5 frame. Students know that there are 5 counters in the 5 frames and 1 counter left over. Students know that 5 and 1 make 6!

Mila showing us the number 9 on a 5 frame. She knows that to make 9 you need 5 and 4.

After, students worked in pairs and were given 5 and 10 frames and were asked to show different numbers. Students used counters to show the number, they were asked to count the counters on the frames, and how many were extra.
Syra and Devan chose to make the number 20. They placed 10 counters in the 10 frame and 10 on the ground. 10 and 10 make 20!
Mila showing us the number 16 on a 10 frame. She drew 10 hearts in the 10 frame and 6 hearts outside of the boxes. She knows that 10 and 6 make 16!
