Unit of Inquiry: Sensational Senses

Today we continued to explore our sense of sight. We read a story about eyes. Students discovered that the eye has 2 very important parts, the Pupil and the Iris. Students know that the Iris is the color part in our eye and the pupil is he dark circle in the center of the eye. Students learned that the pupil expands in the dark to help us see better!
Students drew a picture of their own eye and labeled the parts of the eye.

After, students had some time to play with the blocks and puzzles.
Students worked together and used their problem solving skills to complete the puzzles.

We watched bounce patrol and brainstormed words that have the short u sound. After, students created the letter U using playdough. Some students even made words!

Math
Patterning review
We continued reviewing different types of patterns. We played a guessing game where students had to guess the pattern I made. After, I asked students to create a pattern using the shapes.

After, students worked in 2 math stations. The first station, students worked on a pattern worksheet where they had to complete a pattern by selecting the shape that comes next and then they created their own pattern. The second station, students did a hands on activity by creating a pattern using the shapes. Students rotated stations once they completed  their activity.

Today students explored the sense of sight. Students listened to a Brown Bear story. In the story, Brown Bear sees lots of different types of animals. Students then had to list all of the animals the bear saw. Students worked on a activity where they had to cut and paste the animals the bear saw in order.
After, students discussed all of the different things they are able to see in the classroom.

IB Learner Profile: Thinkers

This month, the IB learner profile that the school is focusing on is Thinkers. Students and I discussed what it means to be a thinker. I read a story called Caps for sale. In this story, the peddler was not a good thinker and did not make very good choices. After the story, the students brainstormed ways the peddler could have been a better thinker.

Students wrote about the peddler and how he could have been a good thinker and drew a picture.
