Monday, Oct 16th

Morning Routine: Farah is our new calendar helper this week!


Aarna is our weather reporter this week


Kai feeding our succulent pants this week



Phonics: This week, we are learning about the sound and action for the letter R and H.


We played a game where students had to sound out the words and read to find the word(s) of the week.

Math: We started our new unit: Patterns
Students discussed what they knew about patterns. We completed a KWL chart (know,wonder,learn) as a class. Students know that a pattern is when you have 2 different colors or shapes and they change. After our discussion, students completed a patterning pre-assessment worksheet to see what they already know about patterns.

Unit of Inquiry: We finished our first Unit of Inquiry, sharing the planet.
Now we are working on our second unit of the year, How the Word Works. 
In this unit, we will be focusing on seasonal changes and how it affects living things. Please look on the right tab for more information.
We talked about the different seasons of the year. We completed a KWL chart and students used prior knowledge and talked about what they knew about fall.


After, students drew a fall picture.







After, students worked in pairs and did some table activities.

Friday, October 13th



Today, SK's spent the morning doing their math test.



After the math test, we did show & Share!

Mila brought in her Elephant for the letter E! Mila talked about her Elephant dumbo and told her friends that he is very soft.

After gym, we read a story called Officer Buckle. This story focuses on the IB learner profile, knowledgeable.
Officer Buckle is a safety officer and is very knowledgable. The students and I talked about what it means to be knowledgeable and why Officer Buckle is knowledgable.

Thursday, October 12th



Farm Day!

Today, we spent the morning doing our food presentations!
The students were all so excited to show their friends their food item. 















The students did a fantastic job! Thank you!

In the afternoon we worked on our math review. 







Mila is showing us one way to show the number 6. She drew 3 circles in one box and 3 in another.
Students know that 3 and 3 make 6!

Students know that 4 and 2 make 6.

Wednesday October 11th



Morning Routine: Our plant feeder is Surina for the week.
Students are really excited to see how much our succulent plants are growing!






Phonics: Today we continued learning the short /e/ sound. We watched the bounce patrol letter e song:

After watching the video, we brainstormed words that start have the short /e/ sound. Students are aware that the letter E makes two sounds. We are focusing on the short e sound.
After, students completed a worksheet for the letter E.






Journal: Students worked in their journals and wrote about 2 words that have the short e sound.







Math: Today we continued with our math review.




Mila is showing us one way to show the number 6. She drew 4 hearts and 2 circles.  Students know that 4 and 2 make 6!




Kai is showing us how to show 7 on a 10 frame. Students counted 7 counters on the 10 frame and know that 7 is 3 less than 10.

After, students worked together and completed the missing numbers on the board.
